The Doctors Behind
Critter Fixer
Dr. Vernard Hodges and Dr. Terrence Ferguson founded Critter Fixer Veterinary Hospital in 1999. Both are graduates of the Tuskegee University School of Veterinary Medicine, and together they bring decades of experience caring for the animals of Middle Georgia.
Dr. Vernard L. Hodges, DVM
Born in Norwalk, Connecticut and raised in Fort Valley, Georgia, Dr. Hodges has called Middle Georgia home for most of his life. He graduated from Peach County High School in 1988 and went on to earn his degree in Fish Biology from Fort Valley State University in 1993.
Before veterinary school, Dr. Hodges spent a summer in Nepal and India working with the Agency for International Development on aquaculture programs. He also completed an aquatic internship at the University of Mississippi. These early experiences shaped his broad approach to animal care and his appreciation for wildlife beyond traditional companion animals.
Dr. Hodges earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the Tuskegee University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1997. He co-founded Critter Fixer Veterinary Hospital with Dr. Ferguson in 1999, and the practice has grown to serve thousands of families across Houston County and the surrounding area.
Outside the clinic, Dr. Hodges is the father of one son, VJ. He shares his home with three dogs and raises Koi on a fish farm in Peach County. He is also the co-star of "Critter Fixers: Country Vets" on Nat Geo Wild.
Dr. Terrence Ferguson, DVM
A native of Talbotton, Georgia, Dr. Ferguson grew up with a deep connection to rural Southern life and the animals that are part of it. He graduated from Central High School in Talbotton and enrolled at Fort Valley State University in 1987, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Veterinary Technology.
Dr. Ferguson went on to receive his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the Tuskegee University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1998. During his training, he interned with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service at the Patuxent Wildlife Refuge in Maryland and the Alaska Wildlife Refuge on the Kenai Peninsula, experiences that broadened his understanding of wildlife medicine and conservation.
Dr. Ferguson resides in Byron, Georgia with his wife Kimberly and their two children, Terrence II and Nicole. The family also includes their dog, Caesar. He serves as the Treasurer of the Peach County Youth Organization and is a Trustee at Beulahland Bible Church.
He is also the author of "C is for Critter Fixer," a children's book that introduces young readers to the world of veterinary medicine. Like Dr. Hodges, Dr. Ferguson is a co-star of "Critter Fixers: Country Vets" on Nat Geo Wild.
